Things That I Don’t Like About the Tesla Model 3

This list is shorter and others might find other things that they dislike but these are the things that I dislike (in no particular order). For the top ten reasons that I like the Model 3, click HERE.

  • Door Handles – the door handles are, well, unique. While you get used to them, it’s a little annoying that you have to give a door opening lesson to anyone that needs to get into your car. Basically, you need to push in the door handle and pull the lever that pops out. The latch to get out of the car is also a bit annoying as it consists of a hard to see button.
  • Ruined Rims – when most cars rub up against a curb, the tire is the one rubbing and it’s not a big deal. Not with the Model 3. Rub against a curb and you have just scratched and ruined a $250 rim. While you can have someone fix the scratches at a steep cost, it would be nice if that didn’t occur.
  • Infotainment System – while the infotainment system is decent, it leaves a lot to be desired. The Infotainment system includes a radio, music streaming service, podcasts and it now includes Spotify but no Apple Music. When you search for a song, it will create a station of similar songs but not always give you the actual song that you’re looking for.

(A huge, huge plus is having Netflix, Hulu and YouTube (only when parked) but you would need to have a subscription to those services plus you need to pay Tesla $10 per month for the data usage. Finally, it also includes video games that you can play while parked. Although this is in the dislike list, the Infotainment System is really nice in cases where you need to do a lot of waiting in the car.)

  • Time to Supercharge – You can get free supercharger miles (click on my referral link below  to get 1,000 free supercharger miles) which means that you can go to any Tesla supercharger station ( 16,000 around the world) and charge your Tesla for free.  The time it takes to charge can depend on how much you charge but it can take about 45 minutes for a full charge. For me, the fact that I can charge for free and watch Netflix while it’s charging is a mild inconvenience. For some though, it might be a bigger deal. Note that you don’t need to charge at a Supercharger station. You can just charge at home or at work if that is an option.
  •   Software Glitches – Like with all smart devices that get updates, Teslas sometimes have a software glitch. For example, the rear view camera wasn’t turning on or Netflix doesn’t turn on. There is a way to reset / reboot the system to clear away these glitches and you can always make an appointment with service via the app.

If you’re considering getting a Tesla, hope that this helps with your decision. If you want 1,000 free supercharger miles, you can use my referral link.
